KS2 SATs Papers

KS2 SATs papers (also known as Year 6 SATs papers) are tests children take at the end of Year 6. SATs papers KS2 are taken in English Reading, Maths and SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar).

Children are given two KS2 SATs papers – a reading booklet and a reading answer booklet. All our English Reading Free SATs papers KS2 are available to download above.

Of all the subjects, English Reading has changed the least of all the KS2 SATs papers. With only one KS2 SATs paper, it’s out 50 marks and children have 60 minutes to complete it.

As well as English Reading, children take a “teacher assessment” in English Writing. This will be set and marked by their teacher and the test will not take place during the KS2 SATs week.

KS2 SATs Papers in Maths are three separate papers – Paper 1 (arithmetic), Paper 2 (reasoning) and Paper 3 (reasoning).

Whilst the format of the Maths Y6 SATs papers has changed, the content has remained largely the same. Children have 40 minutesto complete Paper 1 and 30 minutes to complete Paper 2 and Paper 3. The marks of all three papers are then added together for their final mark.

Year 6 SATs papers in SPaG are two separate papers – Paper 1 (Questions) and Paper 2 (Spelling).

SATs past papers KS2 in SPaG prior to 2013 only had a spelling test. For today’s KS2 SATs papers, SPaG has two papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is out of 50 marks and lasts 45 minutes. Paper 2 is an audible spelling test that contains 20 questions and lasts around 15 minutes. As with the Maths SATs KS2 papers, the marks are added together for their final mark.

About KS2 SATs Papers

KS2 SATs papers is the contracted form of “Key Stage 2 SATs papers”.

KS2 SATs papers (or SATs papers KS2) are formal exams, taken by children in Year 6. As such, plenty of teachers refer to them as Year 6 SATs papers or simply Year 6 SATs.

Every KS2 SATs paper is a “sit down, written” exam. As such we would recommend avoiding online KS2 SATs papers. Only by printing past SATs papers KS2 will children feel prepared for their Year 6 SATs.

Year 6 SATs papers have changed slightly over the years but still remain useful to children. Some topics have been added or removed but the fundementals are still in every past KS2 SATs paper. In fact, giving your child past SATs papers KS2 before their tests is the best way to prepare them.

The 2014 SATs papers featured a slightly tweaked English Reading assessment and banned calculators for all Maths tests. The 2015 SATs papers was the last year for “levels” and audible Mental Maths tests. The 2016 SATs were the first modern “new structure” SATs papers for the new national curriculum.

The 2017 SATs added a further set of KS2 SATs papers for children to practise with.

Do not confuse SATs papers KS2 with “SAT papers”, “SAT papers KS2” or “Year 6 SAT papers”. These are different tests (pronounced “S.A.Ts”) that take place in the USA and deal with critical thinking.

Since starting as “free past papers” (and later “satspapers”) we have offered Year 6 SATs past papers to millions. Other websites (like emaths ks2, testbase ks2 and satspapers org ks2) have tried and failed to compete.  Thank you for your support!
